How To Stay Motivated

Motivation…

No matter who you are, you will have moments where you feel like you have lost of motivation and do not want to do anything at all. Even highly effective and successful people will have times when they feel unmotivated. However, it is the way they deal with this “down” time that keeps them moving forward and helps them to continue accomplishing great things.

Motivation is one of the most important things that will push you into taking action and keep you moving each day. If you don’t feel motivated, you will tend to procrastinate about the things that you are supposed to get done in order to achieve your goals. Eventually, you will put things off and totally give up.

Fortunately, there are solutions to this! These are some of the things that have really helped me get back on track when I’m not feeling motivated:

  1. Surround yourself with positivity

There’s an old saying that we are a product of the 5 people we choose to surround ourselves with. Who are these 5 people in your life? Are they who you would like to become? Do you admire and respect them? Are they positive and uplifting? If not, perhaps you should reconsider who you are spending the majority of your time with. One of the best ways to find happiness and success is to find those who are highly motivated and know how to create their own happiness. Spend time around these people and you’ll find yourself seeing the world differently and wanting to level up.

  1. Create a vision board

This is such a great motivational tool. Create a vision board that you look at every day. This may include photos of inspirational people or material things, inspirational quotes and images – anything that motivates you to stay accountable and stick to your plan.

  1. Make S.M.A.R.T goals

This is such an important part of staying motivated. If you don’t have any goals, then you have nothing to work towards and you will be more likely to give up. Set yourself a series of small goals and plan a reward for yourself when you achieve each of these goals. When setting goals use the S.M.A.R.T approach – ensure they are specific, attainable, measurable, realistic and time-bound. Make sure you revisit your goals often too!

  1. Believe in yourself

The only limits we have are the ones we place on ourselves. The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you cannot achieve it. It is time to let go of these excuses, break down some barriers and allow yourself to reach your full potential.

  1. Recognise your progress

Tracking your progress is a huge part of staying motivated. If you don’t, how will you know if you are getting closer to your goals? Weighing and measuring yourself and taking photos is the best way to go. But keep in mind, progress isn’t just about how you look or the number of the scale. It’s about how you feel. It’s about improving your relationship with your body. It’s about improving your relationship with food. It’s about being able to push your body to do things you never thought it could do. It’s about improving your self confidence. It’s about feeling comfortable to wear an outfit that you never thought you would. It’s about discovering more about yourself.

  1. Reward yourself

Start a reward system to keep you motivated. This may be as simple as treating yourself to a new piece of clothing or jewellery or something that you have wanted when you reach each goal you set

  1. Be kind to yourself

Stop hating yourself for everything that you aren’t and start loving yourself for everything that you are. Achieving your goals is a lot more difficult if you are engaging in regular negative self talk like, “I can’t do it”, “I will never look like that”, or “I’m not good enough”. Making changes starts with your mindset. Your body achieves what the mind believes so it’s time to become your biggest fan. Once you have the right mindset, anything is possible!

  1. Don’t compare yourself to others

The moment you stop concerning yourself with what everyone else is doing and start focusing on what you are doing, everything becomes so much easier. I have found that focusing my energy on fulfilling my purpose allows me to reach my goals A LOT faster. Comparing yourself to others and the subsequent jealousy and insecurity this creates will only hold you back. You are you so just do you!

  1. Take it one day at a time

I find that people become overwhelmed and disheartened with how long it will take to reach their goals. My advice is to not think about how long it is going to take. The thing is – this time will pass anyway, so you might as well be doing something that will get you closer to these goals. Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and make small goals to keep motivation high – it all adds up to reveal the bigger picture!

10. Take a Break

Make sure you get enough rest and take a break when need to. You need to understand your own capabilities and how much you can do. If you have done your work, you can reward yourself and take a break. You will notice that after the rest, you will feel more energetic, more motivated and are ready to take on the world again.
